Pushing the Limits: SC Connectors for 100M Through-Wall Patchcords

The performance of fibre optic connectors is critical in modern communications and data transmission. One customer had a challenging requirement: to design a SC connector for a 100M pull-through patch cable that had to have an insertion loss of less than 0.2dB at 1550nm and be able to withstand an extreme pull test of 100N10Kgs for 1 hour. This involves not only high precision optical performance, but also a great deal of physical stress.


Our team of engineers took the following measures to achieve this goal after precise calculations and experiments: 1. Material Selection: We chose high-quality fibre optic materials to ensure low insertion loss. At the same time, we used strong housing materials to withstand tensile testing. 2. Precision processing: The manufacturing process of connectors requires a high degree of precision. We use advanced processing equipment to ensure the accuracy and consistency of our connectors. 3. Optimised optical performance: By optimising the connector geometry and surface coating, we have successfully reduced insertion loss. The insertion loss of our connectors at 1550nm wavelength is only 0.0xdB, well below the 0.2dB required by our customers. 4. Physical Strength Test: We designed a special test rig to simulate an extreme pulling  force of 100N10Kgs. The connectors performed well in the 1-hour test with no degradation or damage.
